OLD CHINESE ROSEWOOD BOX AND COVER Inlaid with Carnelian Agate and Spinach Jade
An Old Chinese Rosewood Box and Cover inlaid with Agate and Jade. The center of the lid is carved out to accept a large oval Carnelian Agate Plaque, nicely carved and deeply undercut with a foliage design, flanked on both sides by two Spinach Jade carvings in the shape of bowls with flowers. Sadly, there is a small piece at the top of one of the jade pieces that is gone but as it is inset into the dark wood: not too conspicuous. There is an age separation on the cover that follows the line of the wood grain and is most likely due to shrinkage with age.
