ANTIQUE AMERICAN FOLK ART OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS - DATED 1854
Self-Portrait - J. Vick
Large Antique American Folk Art Portrait Oil Painting On Canvas - 1854 - Painted by J. Vick - Wonderful 19th c. half-portrait of a Gentleman, shown dressed in a black coat and tie, wearing a lace-accented or patterned shirt, with a red sofa and curtains in the background, enclosed in what seems to be the original decorative gilt frame. On the reverse, it says it was painted by J. Vick in 1854. It came out of a Louisiana Estate. It is supposed to represent a 'self-portrait' of the Artist. There does not appear to be a signature of the front. It's ready to hang. Condition is very good commensurate with age; craquelure present, and a spot towards the bottom to the right of his hand that look like the canvas was thin or scuffed and was touched up long ago, a very thin minor scratch to his right, and other minor scratches or scuffs. The frame has several places that need attention. It's very well-detailed and painted. The photos speak for themselves!
