EXCEPTIONAL LARGE 19th c. JAPANESE BAMBOO FIGURAL CARVING FISHERMAN/FISHERBOYS
Carved in the round, the old man is cradling a large Fish as he leans over a huge fish basket that was skillfully carved and pierced with two Fisherboys, one holding a fish, the other with a basket. The reverse side of the figure showing the his hat which is nicely carved in a large chrysanthemum pattern, along with a large bamboo pipe tucked under his belt and a basket hanging from it. Unsigned.
Condition: One very small section of the large bamboo basket missing at the top left and can be seen in the photos; the topknot of the Fisherman has flattened somewhat; some separation of wood towards the bottom of the back of his robe, all commensurate with age.

Black Lacquer Tobakobon Late Meiji Period
The rectangular box with arched sides, decorated at the sides and ends in copper and gold hiramakie with grasses, leaves, and flowers on a roiro (mirror-black) ground, the deep interior lacquered in heavy nashiji and fitted with a white Hirado porcelain Hi-ire (ceramic holder) receptacle for charcoal and ash. Signed in sosho (running script). The piece of slender bamboo used as a refuse- Signed; the whole raised on bracket feet. Condition: Very good, with some minor chips to the lacquer that would be commensurate with age and use.

Nice Ivory Netsuke of an Octopus and a Rat - the octopus shown with it's tentacles folded under the body forming a compact position, while the rodent sprawled over its body, appears to be gnawing at it. Nicely detailed and stained for effect. and strung on a cord for wearing around the neck. Unsigned. Condition: Excellent

Large Japanese Scroll , Meiji Period - JO AND UBA - Shown as an old and wrinkled couple that haunts the pine trees in Takasago, gathering needles. Jo depicted with a rake and Uba, with a broom of twigs; the couple symbolizing 'Marital Love and Fidelity'; shown standing next to a Crane, representing long life ( Crane lives 1000 years); painted in soft colors on paper, mounted on paper, with bone scroll ends. Signed (Unread), one seal of the Artist. Condition: Very good, with some wrinkling and a few very minor pinholes and soil that would be commensurate with age.
