Also known as the 'mirror' plant, this trifoliate clover-like leaf was very popular with the warrior class, especially when a blade was introduced into the depiction of the flower itself, as it is in this crest. It's called the 'Maru ni ken katabami'. It measures approx. 16 ft. 8 in x 25 1/2 in. The width including the loops is 29 1/2 in. wide. It is so long, that in order to photograph it, it was wrapped the top over a little to secure it, and some stones were placed at the bottom to hold it. Condition is very good; light soil is present as would be commensurate with age and use; the white is more ivory colored now, some small to tiny holes present. It's a great banner.
