EARLY 20TH C. JAPANESE GOLD FOUR-PANEL SCREEN WITH CREST DETAILING A SAMURAI SCREENING CURTAIN
Maru ni Kenkatabami (Sword and Oxalis)

An early 20th c. Japanese Gold Four-Panel Screen with Crest (Mon) - Decorated with three large Mon (family crest), painted with mineral paints realistically detailing a Samurai screening curtain of the type that would have been used during outings for pleasure or military campaigns to cordon off areas of high-ranking officers.  I believe the mon is the Maru ni Kenkatabami (Sword and Oxalis in a circle), a Battlefield crest. Original backing paper remains. Condition: Some minor damage typical for a screen of this age; a small missing piece at the top of Panel 3, tear in Panel 4, a tear in Panel 2, and some places in the grooves between panels where there are some loosened edges from folding and unfolding, one old repair to the reverse, light soil, and some scuffs to the outer edges of the frame.Overall Condition: Good.  The metal hanging hardware for hanging is present to the back.  It displays beautifully !!

Size:            73 1/2 in. x 28 3/4 in.
