ANTIQUE JAPANESE BLACK AND GILT LACQUERED WOOD ZUSHI
Wood Figure of Bishamon
Antique Japanese Lacquered Wood Zushi (Shrine), 19th c., the black lacquered shrine with two curved hinged doors opening to a gold lacquer interior draped at the top, containing a wood figure of a Tamonten (Bishamon) standing on a rocky ledge on a rectangular base; dressed in armor, a ferocious look on his face, holding a stupa or pagoda in his left hand, a halberd in the right. Nicely carved. The exterior fitted with gilt chased metal mounts. Condition: Very good as would be commensurate with age and use; a small place on the top of the shrine which bears signs that a sticker had been there at one time, some minor nicks to the lacquer present that in no way disturb the integrity of the piece. Please Note ** The Buddhist Altar Stand was used for photographic purposes only. It does 'not' come with the Shrine. A wonderful addition to your Collection.
